Front the outset, the client’s vision has defined the project’s aspirations. As a new community quarter in the heart of Downtown Cairo, the project aims to preserve and respect the area’s heritage. The scheme will provide a series of mixed-use destinations and experiences, including residential, commercial, educational and leisure.The project evolved through a clear understanding of the client’s desire to create a rich and unique destination. The availability of a large group of buildings to be reimagined in Downtown Cairo is a rare opportunity brought about by the establishment of new headquarters of the Ministry of Interior in New Cairo, to alleviate the congestion of the city centre. This gives the design team the rare opportunity to look at a city block in its entirety and establish a well-considered masterplan for the site in terms of design, access and circulation.
